What happens if you make it through your tale? Not the Disney version, the true warts and all version. Do you really live Happily Ever After?
This is a full length musical - think Stepping Out meets Into the Woods! CAST LIST - WORKSHOP PRESENTATION – Alphabetical Order Dr C Whyche - Amy Hunter Hansel - Connor Canvess Snow White - Georgie Samuels Sleeping Beauty (Aurora) - Katie Buttner Goldilocks - Julie Anne Smith Peter Piper - Martin Richardson Red Ridinghood - Natalie Jackson Rapunzel - Nicole Wade Character Descriptions - spoilers for the plot revealed! DR C WHYCHE The Sea Witch from The Little Mermaid. Purposefully written to be gender fluid and open to interpretation. No pronouns are used in the script. 40s-50s. Powerful. Real tale: Sea Witch cut out the Little Mermaid’s tongue in exchange for legs but made it so that every step was like knife blades on the feet, which would bleed profusely. Little M has to get the Prince, fails and is turned into seafoam. RED RIDINGHOOD 20s. Pop/rock belt. Now grown up with all the traits of someone who has gone off the rails. Real tale: Wolf tricked her into eating her own grandmother and then made her strip naked before getting into bed with him. RAPUNZEL 20s-30s MT mix. Suffers from alopecia, ends up falling for Aurora (Sleeping Beauty). Real tale: Parents gave her up in exchange for cabbage. Mother Gothel locks her in a tower for her whole childhood, later casting her into the desert for having sex with a Prince, where she bears twins. The Prince tries to commit suicide but ends up blinding himself on thorns. They, somehow, find each other and her tears cure his blindness. Feeling obligated, she marries him. SNOW WHITE 20s-30s. Legit soprano. Did not choose her Prince and now feels trapped. Suffers from a compulsive need to clean. Real tale: Abuse starts aged 7. Escapes Wicked Queen and lives with Dwarves in the woods. Enjoys polygamy with said hosts. A passing Prince, she has never met, falls for her and buys her body from the Dwarves. He has sex with her when he believes her to be dead. The poisoned apple dislodges from her throat as they load the coffin in the carriage and she subsequently awakes. She invites the Wicked Queen to her wedding and then makes her wear red hot iron shoes and dance until she dies. AURORA 20s-30s. Sleeping Beauty. MT Mix. Gay, but no-one ever asked. Trust issues, but comfortable in her sexuality. Falls for Rapunzel. Real tale: Raped in her sleep by a King, bore twins, kidnapped by the Queen who tried to kill and eat her children and throw her onto a fire. Survives by cunning. (PETER) PIED PIPER Peter. 30s-50s. High-Bari/Tenor. Peter is a mix of Peter Piper and The Pied Piper - are they the same person?! He is paroled from prison having served time for killing all the children of a village who thought they could get away with not paying him. Sociopath – cannot comprehend that what he did was wrong. HANSEL 20s-30s. Baritone. Large frame. Think Augustus Gloop grown up. Real tale: Lead into forest to be eaten by wolves by own parents as they couldn’t afford to feed the children. Killed the Witch who tried to eat him. GOLDILOCKS 50s-70s. No social graces. Chest belt. Goldilocks, but old - think Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Real tale: Goldilocks was thrown out of the family home, considered ugly and foul mouthed by her family. She lives on the streets, taking what she needs…. Sometimes from bears! She was always a silver-haired older lady in the story until the 1900s when the golden ringlets and younger image were created Songs ACT 1
